How do I choose a personal injury lawyer..!!

This is my first time needing a lawyer. My brother recently hit by a semi-truck on his motorcycle a few days ago. He has serious injuries. Once he got to the hospital, we are unsure about what to do or how to handle a claim. So we consider contacting a law firm to help him with his case. We decided to go with a personal injury lawyer, but few of my friends advised that I should be very careful about choosing a firm because scheduling a consultation with a personal injury attorney is a big step toward gaining compensation. As my parents or I don't have any previous experience with consulting a law firm we are entirely unaware of making a decision.  So I thought I should ask the experts here. How do I find a skilled personal injury lawyer? Please share your thoughts as soon as possible.
