u4gm Path of Exile 2 Phys DoT Elementalist Guide
#1
In Path of Exile 2, the Elementalist has some fresh tricks up her sleeve, and one of the most exciting ways to use them is with a Physical Damage over Time setup that turns the battlefield into a chain of detonations. Players have already started calling it the “Boom Squad” – and it’s easy to see why. You stack up a brutal bleed or rupture effect, then watch enemies blow up and set off others nearby. It’s not just about big numbers; it’s about the spectacle of whole packs disappearing in a wave of destruction. If you’ve ever wanted a build that mixes tactical application with pure chaos, this is it. And yes, you’ll want to keep an eye on your PoE 2 Currency for gearing up properly.
The core idea is simple enough: apply a strong physical DoT to a target, and make sure that when they die, they explode for a chunk of their max life as physical damage. This blast hits everything around them, which can apply more bleeds, leading to more explosions. You’re not just killing one monster; you’re setting off a chain reaction. In PoE 2, the Elementalist can interact with non-damaging ailments in clever ways, so you can slow or freeze enemies without dealing cold damage. That crowd control keeps you safer while the explosions do the heavy lifting.
For skills, you’ll want something that applies bleed or rupture quickly and reliably. Puncture’s new version looks promising, but there may be new gems tailor-made for this sort of play. The trick is to hit the right target in a pack – usually the rare or magic monster – then move on before they even drop. When they do, the resulting blast often wipes everything nearby. If anything survives, the secondary DoT from the explosion makes sure they’re ready to pop when the next chain goes off.
Gear choices matter a lot here. Physical Damage over Time Multiplier is king – it’s a “more” multiplier, so every point is huge. After that, you’ll want increases to physical damage, generic damage over time, and area of effect. AoE is more than just nice to have; it’s what ensures explosions overlap and keep the chain going. The bigger the blast radius, the more likely you’ll trigger the next kill without doubling back.
On the defensive side, the Elementalist’s toolkit lets you stack armour, evasion, and spell suppression without losing offensive punch. Determination and Grace auras are a natural fit. A granite flask for armour and a jade flask for evasion give you solid baseline protection. Freezing or chilling enemies, even without cold damage, is a massive help – it slows down incoming threats and buys you time to reposition. Curses like Vulnerability are perfect here, as they make enemies take more physical damage, speeding up the chain.
The mapping style is fast and fluid. You’re not trying to land killing blows on every monster – you’re tagging the right ones and moving on. Often you’ll be halfway across the screen when the pack behind you goes up in smoke. It feels efficient and satisfying, and once you get into the rhythm, you’ll barely stop moving. The explosions handle the cleanup, so you can focus on finding the next group to prime.
Boss fights are a different story. You lose the chain reaction effect, but a well-built physical DoT still hits hard. The key is keeping your DoT stacks maxed while dodging mechanics. Your built-in crowd control – chills, freezes, maybe even shocks – still gives you breathing room. You won’t have the same instant wipe effect as in maps, but you’ll have steady, reliable damage that gets the job done. The Boom Squad build ends up being a great all-rounder: top-tier clear speed, solid bossing, and a playstyle that’s just plain fun. If you’re looking to try something explosive when PoE 2 drops, it’s worth saving up for the right gear and maybe grabbing some cheap path of exile 2 currency to get started.
