Is Mountain E-Bike good for daily usage? - davidnethers - 01-21-2019

Hey there,

Who all here uses a mountain E-Bike to get around the city? I have been thinking of buying one, as it really helps in riding through hills too. By buying this bike in my view it is 2 birds in a single shot. I can use it on hills as well as for getting around the city.

Does anyone over here use such bikes in this manner? Also, suggest me which motor type is better, the front, the mid or the back motor. Please share your suggestions here. I'm eagerly waiting for your replies.

Hey there!

Great question! Mountain e-bikes are fantastic for both city commutes and tackling hills—definitely a two-in-one solution. I’ve been using one for a while now, and it’s been a game-changer for navigating urban traffic and exploring hilly terrains.

As for the motor type, here’s my take:

Mid-drive motors are generally the best for hills and overall balance. They provide better weight distribution, making the bike more stable and efficient, especially on steep inclines.

Rear hub motors are also great for hills and offer a more natural riding feel, but they can make the rear wheel heavier.

Front hub motors are less common for mountain e-bikes as they can affect steering and traction, especially on uneven terrain.

If you’re planning to ride both in the city and on hills, I’d highly recommend a mid-drive motor for its versatility and performance.

Would love to hear others’ experiences and suggestions too! ?‍♂️?
